Am I the only one disgusted by this? They take a classic attraction, with a nice sign, and turn it into a kiddie cartoon theme. Who's idiotic brainstorm was that?

They do it all the time. Call it cycled-marketing. When you are at home you see tons of commercials for WDW. When you go to WDW you are bombarded with Disney movies left and right. It's a way to get people to keep buying their product. But you got to hand it to them...it works.

At least in the short term. However, when you brand with characters, you bank on their longevity. Switching out a character is just as expensive as switching him/her in. However, I will leave the marketing and cross-branding debate for another thread.

I will be interested to see the pictures with the creatures going on the murals. Anyone made it over today to get some shots of those?

yep, e-mails do a world of good!

Anyhow, I don't have Photoshop, so watermarking isn't an option, but I may be adding my name to them. I don't want to, but if it prevents outbreaks, then I'm all for it. I like to publish it without those so Wallpapers can be made.

You don't need photoshop to watermark them. There's another program you can download for free under the open source movement which works on windows, mac, unix, and linux called the gimp that has almost all of the functionality as photoshop. All you need is a program that works in layers and you can add a small watermark with the opacity knocked down.

You can get it here:

sorry guys put if you post a picture in a private forum on the net, and ESPECIALLY if you DON'T watermark it... I have no sympathy for you... after all, its just a picture, and there's nothing you can do about it at this point.. It's not like they are charging people to view it

Well, your Avatar isn't watermarked, Maybe I should go spread it all over the net. Just an observation, nothing personal!

and, more importantly, protectable. Regardless, it is basic protocol to ask permission aside from the legalities. Goes back to the can vs. should argument.

These chanes will definately have to grow on me, right now, I dont know what to make of it.

Which changes did you mean? The fact that Nemo is coming, or the changes to the exterior?

I'll save the Nemo debate for another day, but if you take Nemo's presence as a given, I think they've done a remarkable job with the exterior update. They've kept the spirit of the original while modifying it slightly to account for Nemo's presence. The font change was necessary (the old one looked incredibly outdated) and helps tie in Nemo, and the removal of the setting sun transforms the mural from "looking down on the sea" to "seeing the sea from inside." Makes perfect sense to me.

I grew up with the original EPCOT/EPCOT Center, so I too have a sentimental attachment to "the way things were." I remember Kitchen Kabaret, Horizons, JII, Seabase Alpha, and more with fondness. I'll miss the hydrolators and Seabase theme because they were a part of my youth and I enjoyed them. But I also recognize that keeping the park up-to-date and relevant for brand new visitors sometimes means losing elements that, while wonderful for their day, are no longer as compelling as they once were. That was Walt's vision for his parks anyway.

I do hope that the wave outside isn't gone, since it's fun to watch and attracts attention. I also realize that it may not wholly fit with an "under the sea" theme. Either way, I'm excited about the changes.

-p.b.
