The Mandalorian & Grogu (Lucasfilm - 2026 Theatrical)

outcome doesn’t equal causation

The reason there’s no movies is not to “build anticipation”

It’s to let the cockroach scurry under the carpet in the dark

I didn’t say that was the reason but just because it wasn’t intentional doesn’t mean it won’t benefit from the fact that there hasnt been a Star Wars movie in theaters for 6 years.

I’m not sure enough people even care?

And based on my history…I should be the absolute last person to say this.

The amount of brand erosion that has that has occurred is pretty hard to fully grasp

What it does have going for it is timing. We haven’t had a Star Wars movie on the big screen in a while.
I definitely think that gets them an extra 20 or 30 million on opening weekend. I think it will have to be reviewed very well (beyond Grogu being cute) to be successful.

Cf. Stitch
Wasn't seeing Stitch in live action something fans were curious and excited about? Grogu has just been on TV for three seasons for free, isn't that context different? If you ask a Mando/Grogu fan "what are you particularly excited about?" with regard to this movie, I do wonder what they say. I'm asking this earnestly.

It will open solid and then quickly be judged on merits

Star Wars was never for six year olds

I know they say it everytime they fail to try and excuse it…but it was never so. Not the ethos.

I think between the fact that it’s been 6 years and the Baby Yoda factor it’ll be profitable based on that alone. How profitable will depend on the quality of the film. It has family movie written all over it.

Maybe I can head swap with this Ripley. That is not a flattering sculpt of Sigourney Weaver.
It's like they used a Porkins body on that.
