Spirit of Aloha or Hoop De Doo?

Wow - They used to be the same. Maybe it's because HDDR has more shows weekly than the luau.

Yeah, that's what I am thinking. Or maybe HDDR holds more people? But the less than stellar reviews of SOA doesn't necessarily make me want to fork out even $4 extra dollars, when I know I will enjoy HDDR. I will have to cave one of these days, I guess...

I am another vote for HDDR...we got at least every other year. Show is always the same but with the interaction with the audience it changes it up a little. My DH is always picked on so we have a blast.

I hadn't realized SOA was actually more expensive than HDDR. That's ridiculous, given the disparity in quality between the two shows.

We went last summer and the price was the same ??? But we were on the Delux Dining plan and one thing that was odd was that you could get category 1 seating for the HDDR (we sat right up front) but were only allowed category 2 or 3 seating for SOA.

I think, though I could be wrong, that's because Pioneer Hall holds more people than Luau Cove does.

Yeah, I was extremely surprised. And I don't think its something new, because I have been putting off SOA for awhile because of it. I would imagine most people do not notice, either because they are on the dining plan and it doesn't matter, or because it is so close in price. No doubt that at the end of the night that extra $4 per ticket adds up though!

I'm willing to bet the difference in cost is because of the number of cast members and the type of show the Luau is. There are at least 5 more cast members at the Luau and they perform acts that are pretty specialized. Also, there is potential for SOA to be canceled, but I'm sure the cast still gets paid. It might not recoup the whole amount from cancelling a show, but it doesn't hurt to pad your profits in case. With that said I'm willing to bet that on the whole SOA is a more expensive show to put on, albeit the food is not the star of said show.

I'm trying to think of something fun to do for my birthday dinner. I've been to Hoop De Doo and was planning on doing that for my birthday because I know I love the show and sangria. But I've never done the Spirit of Aloha show and the menu looks yummy. Is it worth trying out or should I stick to Hoop De Doo? I'm also open to other fun ideas for dinner on property. I'm a CM as are most of my friends so park entry isn't a problem but it also means that we've done most things at Disney.

I'm going to suggest Hoop De Doo b/c I posted a thread about honest opinions of Spirit of Aloha and all but one hated it.

Well I just saw the hoop de doo review last night and it's better than I possibly imagined. It's a plane ole good time. I recommend this show to anyone. A very good time. This show without a doubt blows the luau out of the water.
