Renting DVC points

Hi guys!

I wanted to ask what has been your experience renting DVC points on David's or DVC rental store or should I go through the person themselves.

Thanks!

Good question.

They both have great service. David is in Canada, so you have to consider that when dealing with money. But really, for those, you look at their inventory and decide.

I wouldn't suggest renting unless it's someone close to you. Too any risks that could ruin your stay.

Done all three myself
David's offered great customer service and I was very happy with them.
DVC Rental Store offered great customer service and I was very happy with them.
Private owner who I've used 3 times, also a member here, offered great customer service at a price less than the above two. Very happy with him.
Private owner who I used once, not a member here, provided hit and miss communication but came through in the end. Pretty happy with him too.

The two brokers offer a level of security and confidence in the process. You can find most of this security and confidence with a private member if you do a little vetting before hand and not just jump at the first $11/point deal you see on a random Disney board.

Good advice. There are precious few schnozzles who will screw you over by getting your money for a DVC rental and either half-a$$ getting back to you with questions or concerns or just not book the trip. But using either of those rental companies more or less eliminates that risk and minimizes the time you spend booking a trip. You're essentially paying for them to do the vetting.

I've rented DVC points just once so far: I went through David's, and was very pleased.

Prior to getting the reservation through David's, however, I had pending "wait list" requests with both David's and DVC Rental Store. (We made our request 11 months out, but it was for a large number of points and initially, neither agency had a member with the right number of points at the right resort.) During that period, both agencies provided excellent, speedy communication and great customer service, both through e-mails and on the phone. I'd have felt confident about renting from either one.

Another thing I appreciated about David's: by the time we finally secured our DVC reservation, David's advertised price-per-point had gone up by a dollar. David's would have been within it's rights to charge me the higher price, since my reservation wasn't made until a few weeks after the price increase went into effect, but they didn't -- they saved me about $300 by honoring the price as it had been when I made my original reservation request. I felt that was going "above and beyond" the call of duty, and really won them my future business.
