Also a felony at Marketplace in DS. Busy night for OCSO.
That's what happens when you have an open gate area with no metal detector checks to get into Disney Springs. Universal CityWalk has metal detectors for guests to go though prior to entering.

Theft of items valued over 300 dollars is a felony in FL. Someone could reach into one of the watch cases at that timepiece store and attempt to run off, no weapons needed for a felony to occur.

I don't claim to know how security works at DS. All I know is that you have to go through both temperature screening and security in the parking garages.
Strangely enough there is security and a scanner at the DS bus drop off area also, but not on the Marketplace end. Where you enter from the pedestrian bridge from Hotel Plaza Blvd. There is just medical screening and no security of any sort. This is also where rideshare people are dropped off. It seems odd that they did it halfway. Someone with ill intent could just take an Uber and get in without being checked.

Although the "felony" at DS could easily be a theft (as others have noted), it remains a good point that DS could benefit from having those "Evolv Express" security screening machines along with sniffing dogs (or machine versions thereof) at every entrance.

They have metal detectors and dogs at the entrances to DTD in DLR, and everything goes smoothly. I realize there are more entrances to DS, but they found a way to make it work with the temperature check...

They actually do have them in both garages and when entering from the bus stops now. But there is still one unsecured entrance

"A guest has died after first-responders responded to a medical call Saturday night at Epcot.

The person was later pronounced dead at AdventHealth Celebration Hospital after authorities responded to a call at about 8:30 p.m. near Spaceship Earth, the marque sphere near the front of the park, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

No foul play was suspected, the sheriff’s office said.

More information on the person’s name, age, sex, hometown or cause of death were not immediately released by early Monday.

Disney referred all comments to the sheriff’s office Sunday.

The person’s medical issue happened during a busy spring break period for the theme parks, which are still socially distanced and limiting capacity during the pandemic."

Won't Disney Springs go back to no scan and check point after covid is deemed over? It was always ( in all it's iterations) just a outdoor mall you just walked into. I get the covid temp scanning but beyond that why the security?

There is no security coming from the resort bus drop off area, only temp check.

That is strange they were there 3 weeks ago. It was a pain because the smoking area was outside of security and you had to get re-screened if you went to smoke. Security and medical screening were inside the yellow circle and all other entrances in that area were blocked off.

I took my resort bus to DS March 9th and 10th and the temp check was between the two buildings where Kate Spade is on the left and Origins on the right. No metal detector. 🤷‍♀️
