Low budget, anniversary dinner

My 2 year anniversary of dating my boyfriend is coming up on Tuesday. We don't have jobs and are just barely making it on an unemployment check and odd jobs we've done to help our families.

I was going to book a lunch at Garden Grill but we decided against it, thinking there are better things to spend $50 on than food.

So I was wondering if you guys would mind offering any suggestions for lower priced yet romantic eating for our specialy day. We will be attending Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

I know you can sometimes make last minute reservations at the park, and any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Let me know! PM me, please.

We find San Angel Inn at Mexico to be very romantic!
Dinner can get a tad pricey ($20-$30 entrees), so maybe I'd suggest a romantic lunch?

Oh and Happy Anniversary!!

Lunch at TS restaurants is always cheaper than dinner, CS restaurants are the same price. I'd recommend the Cantina de San Angel (the counter service restaurant outside of Mexico) get a couple of maragaritas, some chips and food and then park yourself at a table overlooking the lagoon and watch wishes, cheap romantic, and pretty good food.

I'm confused, Disney and unemployment usually don't mix well together.

Not trying to be mean.....

Yeah, I was kinda thinking the same thing. Not to be a killjoy, but if you're living on unemployment and odd jobs, maybe WDW should wait. I know, for all I know the OP has an AP from before becoming unemployed, staying with friends or family and the trip is otherwise costing nothing...but still, it just seems odd.

You should think about having a "progressive dinner" type experience. "What's That??" and "How do I do it??", you ask. Traditionally a progressive dinner takes place when a group of folks travel from one house to another (typically the houses of the people in the group) and each house provides a different course for the meal.

As most every country in the WS has a smallish eatery (like the Pastry Shop in France or Cantina in Mexico) where you can pick up some more affordable eats, why not take try to have a WS progressive dinner?? All you would have to do is walk around the WS and order individual menu items from these smaller eateries and enjoy yourself. In fact, as many of the countries provide some sort of entertainment throughout the day (like live music in England and Canada or performing arts in China and Japan), you could plan your "meal times" around these shows and have your very own progressive dinner/theatre experience.

My 2 cents...

MK: Tony's Town Square has dinners starting at $14.99.

Epcot: Yakitori House is counter service that starts around $6.99 and they have outside seating area that is nice at night. It's located in Japan.

Great idea, I was even thinking the same thing, except from that location you'd have a better chance of seeing Illuminations....

He he he...No offense taken at all. My Christmas gift last year was an annual pass, but unfortunately both of us ended up losing our jobs after that purchase. We got to do a few big trips before our job loss, but we really wanted to do something for our anniversary. He is getting unemployment checks so this is how we are able to afford this particular trip.

Thanks for the POSITIVE responses. Didn't expect so much negativity. We are going to be able to make it, no worries. Thanks for all of your suggestions. Not sure where we will end up yet. But I appreciate it. Remind me not to mention my financial status next time I ask any of you for advice. ;)

Have a magical day!

Don't let it get you down, some people simply will not understand. As someone who had to endure some severe financial stress due to making dumb mistakes when I was young and then getting scammed by "debt consolidation", I know all too well that when you have nothing, sometimes spending a little something is what has to happen to keep you sane at all. Is it the smartest thing in the world? That's all about perception. What if saving every penny leads to extreme depression or the inability to deal with ones situation?

So I say be smart and enjoy yourself. I am glad that person is not be anymore, but I remember vividly how things used to be.

On a final note, people do seem to really enjoy the Plaza around here, and it is very reasonable, and right on main street so that would be an option. Maybe hit it up for dinner and then go watch the fireworks?

I'm not 100% sure because I don't have an AP myself, but as an AP holder can't you get some small discount at certain TS restaurants around WDW? Or am I just thinking of that Tables in Wonderland card that you have to buy? Maybe that's something to look into (or maybe I'm just making stuff up)

There is a small (10%) discount at a limited number of restaurants in WDW with an AP. TIWL is a separate purchase but AP membership or Florida residency is required to get it.
