Jouney into the imagination with figment track system

Have you ever wished you could go down the old track ways of the old journey into imagination again.Personally I think it would be a little creepy going inside the dark rooms where the old ride system used to be with a flashlight. What would make it even more creepier is seeing one of the old dreamfinder animantronics in one of the dark rooms which the imagineers forgot to take out while putting in the new ride yikes. And when you are on the new journey into imagination with figment you can't even see where all the old rooms were at they have to be some doors leading to the old ride somewhere while you are on the new ride.Either that or they have them hidden really good or maybe they just have them down a diffrent pathway who knows anyone care to explain maybe you robfl lol.

I had thought that the track layout was the same except for the beginning. I think that where you get on the vehicle is where you used to go around and around with the Dreamfinder except that it is refigured for loading.

I don't know though. I never saw a bluprint for either.

As said elsewhere here on the boards...it was a sad day indeed when the original version of Imagination was closed and redone. I enjoyed going on that EVERY time I went to EPCOT...it was more than a tradition for my friends and me. I also remember when the queue for it used to wind through the majority of the lobby around the central grand staircase that leads up to the Image Works playground.

[sigh]

Here I am, now nearly 20 years after my first ride on Imagination, and all I can think is how I won't be able to personally share in the wonder of the original with my 5 year old neice...

My visit to Imagination used to go like this: first did the ride [got my dose of the "soapy bubblegum" scent], then went and played upstairs for a good while, enjoy watching a sunset from the upstairs [nice view to the west from up there], then catch the 3D movie [first Magic Journeys, then Captain EO].

[sigh]

Sorry to make others weepy...

Magic Journeys was the first 3D film to be shown in Imagination's theater. It was produced by Kodak [sponsors of the attraction back then...not sure about now, but I believe they still are] to showcase a new method of filming in 3D that did not involve blue and red colored glasses, but grey lenses that were polarized - one side up and down, the other one side to side. The images were crisper with no blue/red "ghost images" blurring the shot sometimes.

The basic story of the film followed a group of about 5-6 kids as they began an adventure in their imagination with watching the clouds in the sky...then moving onto a playroom with some circus toys...each scene having oodles of nicely done 3D effects to make the audience gasp, "ooo" and "aaa" over.

When Captain EO started in the same theater, Magic Journeys was moved to MK in the same area that Mickey's Philharmagic will be in when it opens next year. I'm not sure where Magic Journeys is now, or even if it is still being shown in a Disney park.

On a related topic, would love to get my hands on both Magic Journeys and Captain EO...

I still have a stuffed animal of the elephant alien with the mesh shirt from Captain EO. I don't remember his name, but I remember that I loved him sooo much that my dad bought me that for Christmas one year b/c it was the only thing on my list. (I was like 5...) What was his name???

HOOTER! :D

I loved when he would make that muffled yell through his trunk. I miss him. Although I don't miss the show Captain EO b/c the woman before she changed into a normal woman at the end scared me. I remember that she hissed and was held up by all these cables and things. I always hid my eyes!

KODAK still sponsors the attractions. I remember going up to the old ImageWorks playground last year. My friend who is a cast member at Imagination took me up there. It was a little sad and creepy because everything is in tact!!

Personal connection with Magic Journey

Interesting Personal Note on Magic Journey.... we went to see it when it was there many years ago with my step-mom. Turns out the person who was the Magician (remember him) was her cousin.. we had seen him perform prior to seeing the movie... but didn't know him all that well... this post reminded me of that and our supprise when we saw him in 3D...

He was created for the attraction and has not been used in any other form that I know of. If I remember correctly, Figment was being set-up to be the official mascot of EPCOT - kind of how like Mickey is/was always associated with the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland parks. From what I remember [and please be gentle with me if I am incorrect, I'm getting old - mid30's now], Disney Corp was hoping not to have to use Mickey in any way as part of EPCOT promotion or merchandising. But, after a short while, Mickey began appearing in the park with the rest of the gang in those snazzy-80's Rainbow Brite & silver space suits.

Hope my recollections help...

Thanks everyone!!! I thought Figment was more than just an attraction!! I guess that shows what an impact he had! As far as Mickey not being the mascot....c'mon!!!!! Mickey is the Mouse!! Gotta love Mickey. Incidentally I have some pics of me and Pluto with Pluto in the Rainbow Brite outfit!! I am 37 so I guess I would remember that!! LOL

That's how I remember it, WannabeBelle - EPCOT was supposed to have a mascot other than Mickey and the usual gang. I guess only those steeped in backstory knowledge would know for sure. Too bad the sizable book my father got with opening day commemorative tickets is stuck with him about 8 hours away from me...would like to see what that has to say about it.

I personal think his attemp to draw the layout and locate things in relation to the new ride is VERY wrong.

Most everyone who works there agres that the current Load area is about 2/3 the way through the old "Turntable/DreamfinderBlip" segment. Not where he had it located.

If you watch videos videos of the old ride, it is much easiler to tell were the new and old rides overlap, and grizzybears verison is way off.

Are you sure? The ride matches perfectly in both maps and several portions are confirmed. Please let me know if you have a ride plan.

If you find any parts wrong, please let me know. Thanks!
