I find it cringe worthy. If sufficient members of the Academy (17 different disciplines of film production) thought well enough of a practitioners contributions, they would be nominated. There are over 10,000 members so if someone hasn't been nominated across an entire career, they've either not made significant contributions to the craft or have stepped on too many feet. Even Harvey Weinstein as awful as a person he was, won 24 and was nominated by his peers for 30 more.

Iger asking for a special participation trophy ?

Well according to the article Iger had no knowledge of Kennedy doing this and made no attempt to have her lobby on his behalf.

I however do think maybe after a long career in the industry that he should get sometime of lifetime achievement award, like many of his peers. But maybe shouldn't have been done in this manner.

If a lifetime award were to happen, it would be best for it to happen after Iger retires.
