Yes, apples and oranges.

But if we're comparing them anyway, I'll take the weirder, more historically important (1st modern steel coaster!) Walt mountain over the more modern but less interesting Everest.

Also, the older I get, the less enthusiasm I have for going backwards; the transitions to and from the backward section also give EE a stop-start quality that Matterhorn doesn't have.

And Matterhorn is finished all the way around.

And Matterhorn has working yetis.

My first Disney theme park was Disneyland, and there's always been a part of me wondering why at the very least the other castle parks don't have a Matterhorn. As much as I like Everest, I've never felt that what another park needs is another EE.

Isn't the distinction "First coaster to use tubular steel rails for its track"?
First tubular steel coaster or something to that effect.

There were steel coasters before Matterhorn, but Matterhorn was the first modern example, that really kicked the development of steel rides into high gear.

Fully functioning? I'd probably give it to Expedition Everest. I'll never forget the first time I saw their yeti in motion. -and how disappointed I was when it stopped moving forever. Despite the trip to the chiropractor needed after Matterhorn, it is at least consistent with what it does. So I'm giving it the win. -and as much as I miss the old yeti, I like that the new one's body isn't entire visible. It creates a neat visual trick that he's much larger than what was actually built for him. I also like how "close" everything feels while bobbing and weaving through the caverns of the Matterhorn.

Matterhorn.

The Matterhorn is charming and features an ingenious double layout full of surprises and functioning yetis. I don’t like the current vehicles, and hope more comfortable bobsleds return in the future. But as a ride overall, it’s a historic masterpiece that still thrills and delights.

I do not care for Expedition Everest; I think it’s got one of the most boring track layouts I’ve ever experienced on a coaster, and its “grand finale”… well, the situation is so sad it’s not even fun to joke about anymore. Best parts remain the intimidating big lift and the still-fun shadow animation.

It’s not even close Everest.

SDMT is basically MK’s equivalent at this point, though Space is basically the same layout.

Matterhorn is so good though. The Swiss theming is so lacking from Fantasyland in Orlando.

Makes you really wish we got the Switzerland Pavilion, but sadly it would spread what should’ve been an MK ride to other parks which has always been an issue with the park.
