Well, they turned into cheap imposters when run by The Children’s Place. The original stores were great.

There were in certain market/scenarios

The larger surburban malls (what were usually called “regionals”) seem to have maintained in a lot of cases

Locals are mostly destroyed.

But it’s also a numbers game…cities that had 5 larger malls around them might have 2 or so that survived. I know Pittsburgh well so that’s an easy example to use

This feels really tone deaf on their part. Malls are largely turning into discount bin stores, knock offs, and people trying to open specialized entertainment experiences in former anchor stores. A brand like Disney should be distancing themselves and applying this concept to other types of venues.

Maybe some VP in Consumer Products is married to a real estate developer of Malls.
