DHS Disney Animation-Inspired Experience Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

To be honest, I kind of appreciate how it references it without being a literal recreation in the use of the sorcerer's hat and the stripes. I guess there are all sorts of other things they could have done with this part of the park, but an animation experience and this aesthetic seems ok to me as a concept. For those who don't like the hat, is the argument that it should be restored to its original look when it was actually an animation studio?
It’s the same sort of ahistorical nonsense that deems things with real connections to Disney history in need of being “More Disney” to have a place in a Disney park. It’s an ornament being globbed onto something that was already massed to create distinction and denote the entry. So now you just have these three masses smooshed into each other. And why? Because another, newer building has a blue cone? The original is a poor example of postmodern symbolism shoved onto a building. The copy just more so.

Its franchise mandate run amok. This one short features the new animation building so now this experience is based on that short so the building needs to superficially have some sort of visual connection to the building.

Yes, and at least they haven't changed the name of the park to some generic "adventure world" or other nonsense
Right, and this whole development makes it less likely that they will. Because it's still a facsimile of a studio. DCA, though, I think actually will need a name change by the time they're done with it.

No argument, but I do think I’d prefer either going back to the DHS Studio look or a closer replica of the not-very-interesting Burbank building.

The Animation Courtyard building was Streamline Moderne in its design. The curved corners, horizontal focus, and vaguely-nautical vibe is consistent with that 1930s style.

It seems sad to me that they would want to make it look like the 1990s-era building in Burbank.

I’m a little surprised they didn’t just start over and go full Avenger’s Campus.

I completely agree, plus I think both DHS and DAW have gone from broken parks to now parks that have some really cool things and an exciting future.
If you consider IP dumping grounds an actual plan for the future, maybe. It makes me more concerned for the future but admittedly I am a dying breed.

Still looks too yellow to me, the original is a much more muted tone.

You don’t pick a finish color based on hopes that an uncontrolled, inconsistent process will occur exactly as desired.
I meant the original building in Burbank is faded

But regardless, you don't like this project so you're gonna continue finding new things to complain about and nitpick, and I have zero interest in continuing this discussion with you. Be well

So just another erroneous claim you don’t want to be challenged on. It’s supposed to be a light shade.

This was my impression also, I don’t recall the OG building ever looking this yellow, which is why I thought the FL building was likely painted a bit darker to account for the inevitable FL fade.

Sorry if my criticisms are coming across as nitpicking. I'm happy the Animation Courtyard is getting some attention, and I think returning it to an Animation-focused attraction is a very good thing.

I was just genuinely confused about the project. The whole "evocative of" or "nod to" approach seems, I don't know, a bit lazy to me?

We've known what it was going to look like since the first page of this thread. But for some reason, it just didn't sink in for me that they were giving up on the original 1930s theming and essentially just painting the building the same colors as the Burbank building and adding the big hat.

I mean, how difficult would it have been to redo the facade to look more like this (if that's what they wanted)? Even just the rectangular front portion of the building, but with windows (fake or otherwise)?

Like I said previously, the Streamline Moderne style of the original building had curved ends, horizontal emphasis, a tiered structure that was sort of nautical-looking. Those large, rounded (columns? pilasters? IDK) on the facade are pretty unique, but they also make it look very different than the Burbank building.

I'm sure it'll be an improvement on the Star Wars Launch Bay and a fine attraction. I'm just interested in the architectural style and imagineering going on, and not trying to be critical.
