I haven't been to Disney in 8 years. For those who have been recently would you say attendance is the same as always, increased or decreased ? If so why ? We are going this summer. Thanks

For what it's worth: we went to EPCOT on 12/23 and crowds were very light; the lightest we'd seen in years.
Not sure how long your trip was but from our experience the day or two before Christmas is a little "lighter". Starting on Christmas day and going through the 1st you will have closures at MK on a regular basis and that puts the over flow of people in the other parks. Some people will plan days at MK prior to Christmas and hit the other parks after knowing MK will be a zoo starting on Christmas.

That was a "one day" trip on our way back north from a beach vacation further south. We had already been to MK on 12/17 on the way down the week before. MK was very crowded on 12/17. I planned these "one day" trips that way (on a 2-day ticket), thinking MK would be worse on 12/23 than it was on 12/17, which apparently was mistaken, according to some quick wait time checks for MK I took on 12/23. Anyway, the very low crowds in EPCOT on 12/23 ended up almost being worth the zoo the MK was on 12/17, in which we were still able to get plenty done that we actually wanted to do.

Makes sense. The way I understand it is that you will get all of the locals on Christmas and then Christmas breakers start coming in the day after. We had a close family member pass in the fall and being home for Christmas was not real important to us that year. We were there from the 18th to the 27th. We could definitely see and feel the increased traffic!

Attendance has continually grown over the years. Disney has increased interest in the parks by adding more special events/ festivals that have guests coming to experience a different Disney. Theres an all new Disney Springs with newer shops and restaurants. In the parks, there have been new rides and attractions added that have been highly promoted which draws further interest in return trips. And now with the coming openings of more Star Wars fun, Avatarland, Cars land and more, both first time and return guests wont want to miss out on these experiences. So its an all new Disney for you and dont expect many crowd free dates.

I swore off ever going to WDW in the Summer after going exclusively in the Summer all of the late 90's and early 2000's. We went last week of July thru the first week of August of 2015 and were pleasantly surprised. So much so that I would go in the summer again!
