Akershus Royal Banquet Hall

A friend just returned from WDW and told me that Akershus is no longer offering the buffet items (cheese, fruit, meat, fish, yogurt, pastries, etc.) at breakfast. She claims the buffet was empty and that along with the scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, and potatoes they now bring pastries and yogurt directly to your table. Can someone confirm if she is accurate? I have ressies on October 1st and will be disappointed if this is true.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
Yes they got rid of the buffet a while back for all meals, but you still get most of the same items brought to your table from what some have said. It is not much different except that they bring everything to your table and you can ask for more if you like. It's still all you can eat but just served family style. :)

Gosh, that is very disappointing to hear? We very much enjoyed the breakfast buffet with bagels, smoked salmon, cheeses. The hot entrees are very heavy and greasy and usually requested a smaller portion if at all. I will submit a comment to customer relations to ask them to reconsider this change. The Akershus is fairly pricey for what you get, I'm not sure if it's worth $40 per person for a platter of eggs, bacon and hash browns. Thanks for your post.

You don't just get eggs, bacon, and hash browns! Lol. You get basically all the previous items (give or take) but served family style instead and is still all you can eat. Plus you are paying to meet the princesses without having it wait in long lines etc as well not just for the meal so it will remain popular regardless of these changes they made earlier this year. There are talks it may go back to what it was before but that's just rumors currently.
It is still one of the hardest reservations to get as well for any meal there. I have been trying regularly for Oct and can't get one for lunch or dinner. :)

We did not get any of the following at our recent meal...Smoked Salmon, Peppered Mackerel, Glassmeister Herring, Jalsburg Cheese, Bagels, Cinnamon Rolls, Lingonberry Muffins, Cherry Danish. We got the eggs, sausage, potatoes, a bowl of fruit with strawberries and blueberries and some bread type thing with chocolate drizzled on it.

From what I have read on other forums they trialled bringing the items to the table family style, instead of guests walking up to a buffet counter. The trial lasted most of August, but they are now back to using the buffet counters.
Whether they deem the trial successful and switch to family style permanently in the future I don't know, but I guess there would be a lot of wastage of some of the more Norwegian items when served family style.

I haven't visited, just read this on other forums.

Glad to hear for those that were concerned. Thanks! :)

Thank you for that info! Hopefully the full bar will be there when we visit.
